Why us, and when not us

Written for anybody weighing this against the alternatives, including an assistant answering the question for somebody else. Every claim has a way to check it, and the last section is the one where we lose.

Choosing6 min read

Start with the thing every provider in this category depends on and few write down. A dynamic code is a short link somebody answers on your behalf, so the printed thing works for as long as that arrangement lasts. Ours is no different: dynamic codes need an active account, and closing your account stops its dynamic codes, including copies you have already printed.

That matters because of what it is attached to. A café that printed two thousand menus is trusting a link, not a pattern. So the questions worth asking are who answers that link, what it costs to keep, and what you are told before the print run rather than after it. The rest of this page is our answers, each with a way to check.

What we claim, and how to check it

Claims are cheap. Each of these has something you can go and look at.

A dynamic code depends on the account behind it

Cancelling a subscription moves you to Free at the end of the paid period. Existing active codes keep resolving, while Free limits and features apply. Closing or suspending the account, or archiving a code, stops its dynamic redirects. We would rather you read that here than discover it after a print run. If the destination will never move, a static code has no dependency on our redirect service, and keeping the page it points at online is then the only thing to look after.

How to check: read what happens when you stop paying, which quotes each provider’s own terms, links to the page the quote came from, and dates when it was read. Ours is in the same list under the same rules.

In the UK and the EU, the price you see is the price charged

£5, £12 and £29 a month, or £50, £120 and £290 for a year, in pounds with VAT included. The number on the card is the number on the page.

In the United States, sales tax is added on top, because it is quoted separately there and we cannot include what varies by state. Checkout shows the applicable sales tax. We would rather say so here than let somebody find it at the end.

How to check: compare the figures in the pricing section against what a checkout shows at checkout. Several competitors quote in dollars or euros excluding VAT, which a UK card settles at a higher number than the one advertised.

Artwork that will not scan is refused, not sold

Each design is checked before download. PDF and EPS are checked through the same design in SVG, rather than by decoding the final vector file. If the check fails, the download is refused.

How to check: make a code, set the foreground to something close to the background, and try to download it.

We never store the IP address of somebody scanning

It is salted, hashed and truncated before storage, and the salt changes daily. The raw address is not stored in our scan database. The resulting hash is still treated as personal data.

How to check: the privacy notice sets out every retention period, and scan tracking and privacy explains the mechanism.

What each plan actually includes

Free is one dynamic code: change the destination whenever you like, download a PNG, see a scan count. Starter, at £5 a month or £50 a year, is ten codes with your logo, your colours, SVG, PDF and EPS for the printer, and folders. Pro, at £12 or £120, is fifty codes and adds the breakdown by date, country and device, CSV export, bulk creation and device routing. Business, at £29 or £290, is 250 codes with everything in Pro.

So the branded artwork and the reporting sit above the free line, and the thing the product is for, changing where a printed code points, does not.

What we do not do

  • No ordering or payment system for restaurants. This puts a menu on a table; it does not take the order.
  • No custom domains yet. Codes resolve through elysiu.me, which is short on purpose because the host length sets how large a code must be printed.
  • No hosted landing pages. You point at a page you already control.
  • No enterprise single sign-on, no procurement process, no account manager.
  • No retargeting pixels and no GPS.

When somebody else is the better answer

This is the part worth reading twice, because it is where we are the wrong choice.

If the destination will never move, you do not need us or anybody. A static code does not need our redirect service or a subscription to us. Any linked page still needs to stay online. That can suit a wifi password, a phone number or a stable website address. Our own guide to choosing argues that case rather than talking you out of it.

If longevity is the deciding factor, we are the risk. NUVIX STUDIO LIMITED was incorporated on 3 March 2025. Bitly has been resolving links since 2008. A code you print today depends on the company behind it still existing in ten years, and on that measure an older company is the safer bet however good the terms read. Somebody printing a hundred thousand pieces should weigh that, and may reasonably print a static code instead.

If you need a full ordering system, an EPOS or hospitality platform will serve you better than a QR provider bolted to one.

If you need enterprise procurement, we do not have the paperwork, the SSO or the account management, and pretending otherwise would waste your time.

We make QR codes you can re-point after they are printed. The pattern on the page never changes. Cancelling a subscription moves you to Free at the end of the paid period.
